BRUCE TANNER – KEIGHLEY: MAN AND CAT – THE SHOT I NEVER FORGOT
It was 1975, I was taking landscape pictures in Yorkshire, the light was getting flat and I had decided to return to London. I turned round and right ahead of me were children playing and a man walking towards me with a cat in his arms. I had one chance at the shot in the failing light. I spoke with the man, it was his cat and he was giving it away to a friend. No longer able to afford the rent in failing economic times, he was moving to a cheaper place to live, but one where they would not allow pets. I was really touched by his warmth, that he thought his cat might be happier in a new home, but he was doing what he had to do. I will never forget this shot.
